The Union County Board of Elections will persevere to insure that all elections conducted in Union County are within strict compliance with New Jersey Statutes Annotated, Title 19: Election Laws of The State of New Jersey.

Summary of Services

This Board will continue to guarantee the right of suffrage to all eligible voters in Union County. The right to vote is fundamental. It is the duty of this Board as well as all Federal, State and local governments to promote the exercise of that right. This Board will continue to adhere to all mandates set forth in the National Voter Registration Act, which was signed into law by President Clinton and enacted on January 1, 1995. The purpose of the National Voter Registration Act (Motor Voter Act) was to establish procedures that would increase the number of eligible citizens who would register to vote and to protect the integrity of the electoral process ensuring that accurate voter registration rolls are maintained. This Board will continue to guarantee this right.

The Union County Department of Human Services (DHS) is the county’s largest government service unit. Its mission is to coordinate and deliver quality, cost effective programs and services that recognize and respond to the quality-of-life needs of residents. Services include job training and placement; supportive housing; nutrition and other safety net services; medical transportation; addiction and other mental health services; programs for at risk youth; services for senior adults and their families; the disabled; HIV/AIDS services; and, veterans services.

The mission of the Open Space Trust Fund is to assist in the execution of policy made by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders to conserve open space, provide recreational opportunities, and to preserve historic sites.
When the Trust Fund was created by referendum in November of 2000, the voters of Union County indicated their strong commitment to all three aspects of this initiative: acquisition of open space, expansion of recreational opportunities, and preservation of historic properties in Union County. This office works diligently to assist the Freeholder Board in providing direction in each area, and as a result the residents of this county continue to see ever expanding benefits in all areas.

Union County Department of Public Safety

The employees of the Department of Public Safety are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the residents of our county. The six divisions of the Department of Public Safety include the County Police, Emergency Management, Health Department, Medical Examiner, Weights and Measures and Consumer Affairs. Each of these departments is working hard to protect the residents of Union County in such diverse areas as criminal investigation, emergency response, health education and surveillance, seat belt education and consumer protection. Union County Board Of Taxation


Created by legislature in 1909, Boards of Taxation serve as the supervising taxing authority for their respective counties. County Boards of Taxation are primarily responsible for certifying property tax assessments. In addition, the Board of Taxation is charged with equalization of assessments for the purpose of county taxes, the yearly production of the abstract of ratables, the supervision of the municipal assessors, the certification of municipal tax rates and other various tasks and reports. The Board of Taxation also serves as the venue for real property tax assessment appeals filed by the taxpayer against the municipal assessor.
